Whats Going On At Your School

What's going on at your school?
Schooled on Schools
Schools are getting back into motion. Many of you may be preparing to or have already sent your kids back to those four walls that hopefully produce good results.
Whenever I look at houses in an area or hold an open house, I like to investigate the schools in that district. Many parents are invested in their children’s education. They usually want to know more about the schools their kids could be going to if they lived there. This information is not only useful to those considering moving, but also for any parent. Especially if you are seeing some negative results in your child, knowing more about what other parents in your area are experiencing can help you find some answers. It may even help guide you to some solutions.
I want to give you a little information on some sites that I visit to find this information. Then you can know more about the schools your kids attend. This can help better prepare you to give them extra support in the areas where your school may be lacking; or just make you feel better about their education.
First off, figure out which school services your area (if you don’t already know). Once you know that, start out with a general google search. Type the school name followed by rating or even ranking if you want to compare with other schools. I like to visit several websites to get an average of what people think. Reading the comments can be very insightful. Some sites I like are: niche.com, greatschools.org, and schooldigger.com. I’m sure there are many more that you could check out too! After I get a general sense of the school I like to go to usnews.com. They rank schools nationally and give more in-depth information including college readiness scores, etc. Other things you can do are visit your school’s website and/or the school district website. If you still have questions, you could try to schedule a sit down with some of the staff and/or teachers.
I hope you found this information useful!
