Yummies - South Padre Island

My brother is a great guy and anytime I have a chance to spend some time with him, I embrace it.

My last trip to Brownsville, Texas was over the holidays and I was looking forward to some rest and relaxation, and that's exactly what I did, but after a couple of days of lying around, my brother, who owns many properties in Brownsville and South Padre Island asked me if I wanted to join him on a day of adventures. I knew exactly what he meant: stopping at several of his properties fixing either a lock, a sink, a washer or dryer, or checking the chemicals at the pools. Fun, fun!

That was exactly what we did, until I got hungry. Luckily there are many great restaurants in South Padre Island and I got to choose where to go to lunch.

I chose Yummies,  and the name says it all.

I had been there before and that's why I chose it. I knew the place is bright and clean, the service excellent and that the food would be great.

As soon as we came in, we were seated, offered water and given the menus. For me it wasn't an easy choice since they offer many salads, sandwiches and wraps, all vegetarian. I opted for the Fresh Vegetable Wrap which turned out to be everything I had wanted. The spinach tortilla had a light guacamole spread and a drizzle of virgin olive oil and it was loaded with thinly-sliced cucumber, tomato, red onion, zucchini and squash, shredded carrots, and spinach leaves. Taking a bite of it made me happy, the freshness was palatable and my taste buds thanked me. I felt great afterwards too, it was all healthy and delicious.

My brother chose the Shrimp Scampi Texas Style. This consisted of Gulf Coast shrimp sautéed in a cream scampi sauce with fresh parsley, garlic and thyme and served with grilled veggies over thick slices of baguettes. I took a bite of it, and it was rich and tasty. My brother did not have to say much, all I saw was a totally clean plate after we were done.
