Austin is known as the Music Capital of the World for very good reasons, and it should also be recognized as the Foodie Capital of the World. Okay, maybe not, considering all the amazing food I've eaten in other cities and countries, but it would have a good run.

I'm definitely a self proclaimed foodie. Not only I love food and healthy eating but I'm also adventurous, and get out of my normal circles to try new places wherever I am. And after almost 20 years in Austin, I've probably only been to 10 or 20% of the restaurants in town. My excuse for not trying more? I keep going back to the ones that left me wanting more. On this occasion, we  were heading to one of the well-known dive bars in South Austin, the Saxon Pub, to listen to David Grissom, a guitarist who has played with many famous bands during his career, including John Mellencamp, The Dixie Chicks, Ringo Starr and others. You can check him out here almost every Tuesday.

Before settling in for an afternoon of great live music, we stopped at Ramen Tatsu-Ya for an early dinner. This place was a pleasant surprise. Walking in early was best, since I had been told, the after-work crowd would line up the length of the building soon after 5p.

We entered into this slick, modern, open, not-too-big space with large murals of black and white designs, simple and welcoming. Ordering at the counter from a good selection of dishes, we promptly sat down.

 We ordered the Sweet & Sour Yodas, these are Brussels sprouts, cooked with apricot vinegar and curry spices. They may have been fried, but probably sautéed, and/or oven roasted to perfection. Totally crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The flavor was addictive. Sweetness full, and spiciness delight. Next time I'm here I will order a double portion of them for dinner and will not want to share.

Ramen is what they are known for and the reason for eating here. I prefer gluten free food, but I can deviate sometimes to try something new, therefore I chose the veggie bowl. This is made with soy and mushroom broth, tofu, Brussels sprouts (yes, more), corn, menma, woodear mushrooms and greens.

My dining companion ordered the Mi-So-Hot, a spice version of the Mi-So-Not consisting of pork bone broth, miso blend, goma pork, ajitama, scallion, napa cabbage, bean sprouts and corn.

They were both delicious. My bowl was mildly seasoned and tasted fresh. It was bigger than I thought it would be, but nothing was left on my plate. The noodles were cooked just right, soft and firm at the same time.

Even though I rarely eat meat or meat products, I tasted the Mi-So-Hot, and it was spicy, flavorful and perfectly balanced. Almost at the end of my meal,  I added some of the broth from his bowl to mine and it made all the flavors stand out more with the spicy touch.

There are a few other items in their menu that I would like to try such as the Spicy Edamame, Korokkaaayyy, salad and more. I'll definitely be back soon.
