As an ambassador for the AGLCC - the Austin Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce - I often get to celebrate ribbon cuttings with new businesses. Recently, we visited Chris Petzolt, who designed and built Ranch Austin with his father, with whom he shared a construction background and a stunning plot of land near the Y at Oak Hill.

They turned it into a place that feels expansive and cozy at the same time. The reception hall has water features laid into stone and a gorgeous stained concrete floor, perfect for dancing and eating. There are several possible places for a couple to take their vows - either with a rustic wooded archway set in a beautiful field or under a spread of mature oak trees that lend a serene emerald shade over the enormous, smoothly-paved patio, complete with fire pit.

Chris touched my heart when he explained his reason for joining the AGLCC. He had shown the venue to one member of a prospective couple. Toward the end of their tour, the bride-to-be had mentioned, with some apprehension, that there would be two brides and asked whether Chris would take issue with that. He told them that he definitely would not mind that, and he realized that he had never thought about the stress it might cause a gay person to wonder if they were welcome to celebrate their love and commitment in a place specifically designed for such a purpose.

The AGLCC is proud to have a new member and anyone can be proud to hold events at Ranch Austin Wedding & Special Events Venue.
