In its latest market report, the Austin Board of Realtors released statistics showing a lack of inventory of homes for sale, not only in Austin, but in surrounding areas - driving prices up and making it increasingly difficult for a lot of buyers to afford even modest homes.
Brandy Guthrie, president of ABoR for 2017, stressed that the, “range of home prices available in local market areas are slowly trending upward, changing the local profile of what homes and price ranges are considered ‘affordable.' Single-family homes priced for entry-level homebuyers are increasingly harder to find throughout the region.”
The low levels of inventory being experienced in Austin are now pushing out into surrounding counties, which drives up prices throughout the area as people are pushed to pay more and more for less and less.
