Green Vegetarian Cuisine

Driving home to Austin, from South Padre Island, I decided to stop and pick up food to go. It had been a nice drive but after four hours, I was famished and craving something healthy. I stopped to see friends for a few minutes and found this vegetarian restaurant around the corner from their house.

I immediately liked the sleek and simple decor, an adorable wall mural and friendly staff completed my first impression, and it was a great one.

There were plenty of  vegan choices and I opted for the Falafel Burrito and sweet potato fries.

The burrito had the best chickpea falafel patties I've ever had, a creamy and tasty vegan tzatziki, purple onions, spinach, hummus, olives and tomatoes, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. I will have to remember next time to ask them to hold the olives, but thankfully, they were cut small and did not have too many. Yes, it's true, I don't like olives.

It was large, cut in halves and I ate one half as I was driving. It was a bit messy, but after the first bite I was could not put it down. The sweet potato fries were perfect and exactly how I like them, crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, with a touch of salt and spices. These did not make it home.

I saved the other burrito half for the next day and I had it for breakfast. I'm not sure which half I liked best, the fresh one, or the reheated one the next morning.

I've since learned that they have two locations in San Antonio and one in Houston. Here in Austin, there are quite a few vegan and vegetarian places, but they are mostly food trucks. It would be great if Green Vegetarian Cuisine would expand to our city soon.

If you are in San Antonio, or just driving through, check them out. Their locations are:

1000 NW Military Hwy #2115 and at the Pearl Brewery, 200 E Grayson St. #120.

Have you already been there? Let me know what you recommend for my next visit.
