Launderette In East Austin

I love exploring the eateries in  and around Austin and I finally tried this unassuming place a few weeks ago when I had a visitor from out of town. We loved it! This week I was asked to meet a friend to discuss a possible new business venture and I suggested Launderette. He had never heard of it and I knew he was in for a treat.

Now, it's considered an American restaurant, but the options are quite mixed. From beet hummus to fried shrimp, and steak to a vegetarian bowl, and this is just in the lunch menu.

Although we did not orders alcoholic beverages, they offer a full bar, where you can also sit and have your meal.

When I arrived, my friend has already ordered the beet hummus and eaten half of it, with the delicious everything crackers. I was so happy he saved me some since I knew exactly what it was as soon as I saw it. It did not last long and no pictures were taken, unfortunately.

When we proceeded to order our meals, he asked for the Fried Chicken Sammie which comes with coriander poblano slaw and pickles on challah bread. There was also a spicy sauce on the side, which I tried and was very spicy, probably mayonnaise based, but delicious. No photographic evidence here either, and I assure you there was nothing left on his plate.

I ordered the Sunshine Bowl. This dish included turmeric hummus, sprouted beans, pickled beets, quinoa, butternut squash and tahini dressing. If you know me, you know I like good food, preferably vegan or vegetarian, and this was just perfect. The blend of flavors delighted my taste buds and made me confirm that this restaurant had been a great choice for lunch . The hummus was flavorful, smooth and perfectly seasoned, and the squash, my favorite, was slightly seasoned and made the perfect complement to the meal.

Sunshine Bowl and remnants of beet hummus.

This is a hot area in Austin for real estate. Major gentrification going on and lots of opportunities to own great properties just a short distance from the airport and minutes from downtown. Click HERE to see the properties just listed in the area,  and HERE for the ones just reduced.

If you lived in this area you could walk to Launderette for Happy Hour, Monday through Friday from 5p to 6p. Click HERE to see their menu and check them out soon, it's totally worth it!
