Bees Have Best Views In Austin

The W Hotel; known for being a boutique mega-hotel in the heart of Austin nestled against the Moody Theater where events like  ACL Live occur.  Naturally, there's a lot of buzz around the W Hotel. But, did you know there's more to the buzz than just that?  As it turns out, a colony of bees are living on the rooftop courtesy of American Honey Bee Protection Agency (AHBPA).  And that's not the only place.  GSD&M, The Omni Hotel and even the Circuit of Americas offer up space for AHBPA to host their beehives.  Additionally, most setups also supply a rooftop garden for the bees to contribute to, which in turn get consumed hyper-locally by us humans.   All of the bees are "rescued" via removal tactics from places most people don't want beehives, such as in the walls of homes (which isn't as sweet as it sounds).

Which leads into the next interesting point, Austin has a city ordinance against killing honey bees: City Of Austin Bee Ordinance

With 1/3 of the Nation's bee population vanished, I'm proud to live in a city that recognizes the danger of killing bees and is working diligently to safely re-home and cultivate bee colonies across the city.
